What is ‘The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method’?

Danielle Collins has inspired me as a yoga teacher for many years, her kind and caring manner of teaching is noteworthy and she is a constant source of inspiration to many of us within the world of Yoga. It was a great pleasure to train one-to-one with her to teach her Face Yoga Method.

So why the need for Face Yoga?

In Hatha Yoga we include exercises for the eyes and the neck, however there are very few specifically for the face – yet why should our yoga glow and awesome look stop at the neck?!

There are three main features that make up this method – Face Exercise – Face Massage – Face Acupressure

Face Exercise: Did you know that there are 57 muscles in the face and neck alone!? Just like other areas of the body, through exercise the muscles become lifted and tautened therefore lifting and firming the skin attached to the muscles. The wonderful thing about the face is that the muscles are smaller so the results of the the face looking firmer and toned can be experienced quicker. The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method includes a 20 minute face workout that targets all areas of the face, and yes you really can feel your muscles working hard!

Face Massage: One of my favourite aspects of Face Yoga is the Face Massage, this is because the techniques are so soothing and relaxing. A feather-light touch can facilitate such a profound state of relaxation and well-being. Beyond feeling amazing face massage benefits the face by improving the circulation, elimination of toxins and increasing the lymph flow. The result of all this happening is an improved skin tone that promotes a healthy glow whilst reducing any puffiness in the face.

Massage also benefits the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that are the natural plumping agents within the layers of skin. This helps to give a firmer and healthier complexion to the face and neck.

Face Acupressure: Acupressure is known throughout China and India as a system to free up the subtle energy meridians within the body, this is believed to support specific and general health needs.  In the Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method acupressure is used to increase blood flow and oxygen to specific areas of the face, thereby promoting a more relaxed and youthful appearance. The points used also help to cleanse the lymph system, which results in a reduction of puffiness around the eyes. In a similar way to the Face Massage, acupressure stimulates the collagen and elastin – This again helps to firm and plump the face therefore reducing wrinkles and fine lines on the face.

Other aspects of The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method that I teach include tips on general well-being, nutrition, sleep, relaxation, positive thinking, visualisation and relaxation.
