Gratitude

Helping hand shakes another in an agreement

“Gratitude is the memory of the heart” Jean-Baptiste Massieu

It is day seven of Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra’s 21 day meditation challenge, with the focus on gratitude and health. It has reminded me of the benefits of keeping a gratitude journal, each day writing down all the people, events and experiences that I am grateful for. I have done this from time to time, and noticed that my sense of well-being and overall happiness increased.

Have you ever had the experience of expressing gratitude to a friend, colleague or a family member and noted how it uplifted the interaction or refreshed the relationship? The opposite being true also, expressing anger or frustration and hoping to receive love or kindness yet receiving more anger etc….

I would like to invite you to experiment with this concept for the next seven days, spending a few moments each day writing down all the things that you are grateful for. Notice how it feels to do this and what changes occur in your interactions with others, and the experience of your week.

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each one of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” Albert Schweitzer
